Saunas, cold plunges and red light panels are sold on vibes and borrowed science. We publish the numbers instead: irradiance at a stated distance, kilowatt-hours per session, chiller pull-down times, and the installed cost including the electrician.

Method

What "tested" means here

Most recovery-gear rankings are rewritten spec sheets. Ours start with a measurement or an installed cost, and where we have not measured something ourselves we say so in the sentence rather than in a footnote.

  • Light is measured with a spectroradiometer at a stated distance, not a $30 solar meter that over-reads red LEDs by 2×.
  • Heat is logged as time-to-temperature and kilowatt-hours per session at a stated ambient temperature.
  • Cold is logged as pull-down rate and hold cost in a real garage in August, not a climate-controlled lab.
  • Cost always includes the circuit, the pad and the permit, because that is what you actually write cheques for.
